 On July 10, 2023, Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy appointed Jon G. Lombardi as Undersheriff. Undersheriff Lombardi oversees the Civil Unit and the Judicial Division, the largest division in the Sheriff's Office, which is responsible for security at the Justice Complex, judicial security and investigations, and security for many other county buildings.
Undersheriff Lombardi brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Seaside Heights Police Department in 1992 as a Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer, was hired full-time in 1994, and rose through the ranks before retiring as a Captain in 2023. He served 14 years as Patrol Commander and second-in-command of the department.
Throughout his career, Undersheriff Lombardi started or led several units within the Seaside Heights Police Department. His early career focused on narcotics enforcement, and he formed the department's Street Crimes Unit, which targeted narcotics and quality-of-life issues. During that time, he also served with the Ocean County Narcotics Strike Force and the South Jersey unit of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, earning recognition from both agencies.
In 2012, Undersheriff Lombardi helped lead the Seaside Heights Police Department's response to Superstorm Sandy, and was subsequently appointed Deputy OEM Coordinator for the Borough of Seaside Heights. He has received numerous department citations, two New Jersey State PBA Valor Awards, and is a member of the New Jersey Honor Legion.
