Sheriff's Office

The Ocean Sheriff’s Office is governed by the regulations promulgated by the New Jersey Department of Personnel. We may only hire Sheriff's Officers from a list that is supplied to us by the state. Individuals wishing to pursue a career with our department must obtain a test application through the New Jersey Department of Personnel. Any additional information may be obtained through The New Jersey Department of Personnel.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office is a NEW JERSEY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION - LAW ENFORCEMENT jurisdiction. All phases of the recruitment, selection and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and municipal ordinance. Entry level examinations are conducted exclusively by the New Jersey Department of Personnel once every two years. Mandatory Qualifications for Sworn Personnel:
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Resident of Ocean County
  • Must read, write and speak the English language
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License
  • Free of criminal conviction
  • Good moral character

Steps to becoming a Sheriff’s Officer:

OPEN: Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainee


The Ocean County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting Resumes for the position of Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainee.

In order to be eligible for this position, you must have the following Certifications:
• EMERGENCY MEDICAL DISPATCH – EMD
• BASIC TELECOMMUNICATOR CLASS - BTC
• CARDIO PULMONARY RESUSCITATION - CPR

You must also meet the following requirements:
• Citizen of the United States
• Resident of Ocean County
• Must read, write and speak the English language
• Minimum of 18 years of age
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Valid NJ Driver's License
• Free of criminal conviction
• Good moral character
• Good computer skills
