In accordance with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General Guideline, 2021-5, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office has implemented the use of Axon body worn cameras throughout the agency. This allows our agency to achieve an optimal balance between accountability and transparency while respecting the privacy interests of the general public.
The use of body worn cameras preserves officer interaction with the public, captures evidence for use in cases, and serves as a training tool to assess officer safety and assess best practices and interactions with the public. These cameras are affixed to an officer’s uniform (as depicted) and capture both video and audio recordings. This provides an unbiased and accurate record of interactions.
The body worn cameras will be utilized in accordance with the guidelines established by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General and directives issued by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.
